DIY: Frugal Eats

Homemade Hummus vs. Sabra Hummus
Hummus is one of my favorite snack foods. It is filling and nutritious. However, it can be expensive! I love it so much that I decided I needed to make my own recipe to cut down on the cost. By making my own hummus, I get more than three times as much for almost 1/3 of the cost!

Cost Comparison:

10oz Sabra Hummus costs $2.99. Which comes to $0.30 per 2 Tbsp serving.
32oz Homemade Hummus costs $3.52. Which comes to $0.11 per 2 Tbsp serving.

Homemade Chicken Stock vs. Store Bought
When it comes to being dedicated to saving money, making your own chicken stock is one of the easiest ways to make a difference. I realize the cooking time will throw off a lot of potential takers to this idea. Let me assure you though, your presence is only needed for the first little bit. Then you can kick back and relax while your stove does all of the work!

Cost Comparison: this price is using the leftover bones from a rotisserie chicken and without chicken feet

26oz. Swanson Chicken Stock costs $3.69. Which comes to $1.13 per cup
80oz. Homemade Chicken Stock costs $.86. Which comes to $.09 per cup

Carnitas Burrito vs. Cafe Rio Burrito
Sometimes Cafe Rio just can't be beat! However, if you are in a budget crisis, rest assured that you can easily make a similar burrito at home. Have fun and try out your own burrito bar at home with all of your favorite toppings and ingredients.

Cost Comparison:

Carnitas Smothered Burrito with black beans, rice, sour cream and avocado salsa verde costs $2.28
Cafe Rio Chicken Smothered Burrito with black beans, rice, cheese and mild salsa costs $8.90
