Localize 2013

My goal this year is to support the local community through buying groceries at my local food co-op and purchasing items from other local businesses. Here is a list of my favorite Utah based companies:

Laurie's Buffalo Gourmet
Laurie's specializes in chips and salsa and let me tell you, all of Laurie's products are amazing! My favorite chips happen to be the Sesame Medley, Black Bean & Garlic, and her Thin White Corn chips. They are so delicious it is hard not to eat the entire bag between my husband and I in one sitting! The other thing I love about Laurie's Buffalo Gourmet is her food philosophy; she uses all natural non-GMO ingredients.

Les Madeleines Bakery
Les Madeleines is famous for its Kouing Aman, which was featured on the Food Network's show The Best Thing I Ever Ate! It's a great place to get a special treat or grab lunch.

Rosehill Dairy
I've started to get my milk from this dairy farm through my local Co-Op. It is one of only two producer-handler's of milk in Utah. They milk the cows, pasteurize and homogenize the milk, and bottle the milk to be sold all at the same facility. Their milk is free of artificial hormones and travels less than 80 miles to get to Salt Lake City.

Stone Ground Bakery
This bakery makes the bread that came with my standard share through the Community Coop. I was blown away! We got their Honey Whole Wheat Bread and it was so light and fluffy in the middle with a nice sturdy crust. Delicious.
